Microsoft: Breaking Silos to Drive Revenue Growth

When Microsoft aimed to accelerate revenue growth within a key business unit, the path forward was clear: braver conversations and stronger collaboration. Leaders needed to foster trust, break down silos and build deeper, more meaningful relationships, with clients, resellers and each other.

The challenge

Despite a strong culture of learning, Microsoft faced organisational silos that hindered collaboration. Leaders needed the skills to have courageous conversations, internally and externally, to align goals, resolve conflicts and build trust, strengthening relationships with clients and resellers, enhancing collaboration across teams, and driving accountability toward ambitious revenue targets.

The solution

We designed a tailored virtual programme focused on breaking silos and building braver leaders: core modules on brave conversations, empathy, trust-building and collaboration; manager and individual-contributor group coaching to address real-time challenges; and accountability follow-up sessions to ensure lasting impact, integrated into Microsoft's existing leadership initiatives.

The impact

Silos began to break down as trust and collaboration improved across teams. Leaders initiated more courageous, impactful conversations with clients, resellers and Corporate, leading to stronger relationships and greater alignment, and observable shifts in behaviour fostered a more cohesive, engaged and innovative leadership team.

A Major UK Council: Building Braver Leaders to Address a Major Workforce Challenge

When a major UK council set out to strengthen leadership across its workforce, the context was stark: among the highest sickness absence rates in the region, a workforce strategy calling for resilient leaders who empower and support their teams, and a clear target to improve attendance. It needed leaders who could hold difficult conversations, model psychological safety and build the resilience that sustainable change demands.

The challenge

Employing more than 18,000 people, the council had identified mental health and musculoskeletal issues as the leading drivers of a sickness absence bill running into tens of millions of pounds a year. Its workforce strategy named resilient, empowering leadership as a core priority: equipping managers to have the courageous conversations that stop small issues becoming long-term absence, building self-awareness and self-compassion in leaders who were themselves stretched, and embedding behaviours such as speaking up, reflecting and supporting others so they could outlast a single training intervention.

The solution

The Bravest Path delivered a cohort of 100 leaders through Braver than Before®, a 4.5-month, fully virtual courage-building programme built around six modules. Core modules built the courage to take smart risks, give clear and kind feedback, and meet challenge with resilience. Courage Circles gave leaders from different services small, confidential peer groups to unpick issues from emotions and gain outside perspective, with structured pre and post measurement from baseline to completion.

The impact

Across the cohort, the programme delivered measurable behavioural change: 80% became more likely to practise self-compassion, 80% more likely to speak up, 76% more productive, 54% more engaged at work and 42% more likely to stay. Leaders were also 72% more equipped to handle challenges and 82% ready to apply their learning, a direct line to the council’s retention and attendance priorities. A follow-up months later confirmed it lasted, with 83% of alumni still applying the skills daily or weekly.
